I was born in the midwest in 1980. I grew up in the suburbs, spending most of my time making forts, playing legos, watching cartoons, and drawing. As time went on, I realized how much I've been sculpted by these factors, I've embraced them, and found ways to utilize them.
I attended Columbus College of Art and Design with the hopes of becoming a comic book illustrator, but ended up falling in love with printmaking and the process oriented manner in which it operates. My artwork became minimal, reduced forms, based on this pre-process examination. I started to create work to tell stories I wanted to tell using characters I had created. Eventually, my effectiveness as a communicator became evident through these creations and I started selling work. Since graduating from Columbus College of Art and Design in 2002, I have had work exhibited in several galleries in Ohio and have begun to exhibit outside the state. My personal artwork has led me to all sorts of opportunities and I continue to create using the methods in which I was educated. My work has been identified and marked as littleredmen since its initial branding.
I have had several occupations that have involved my interests. I have worked as a visual merchandiser, an event planner, a commercial artist, a salesperson, and an organizer. Eventually, I found that working for myself was a much more gratifying life for me. I co-founded a creative design studio, ILOVETREEFORT. My experiences in helping run the company helped me understand the bedth of my abilities and my desires to continue working with small businesses in my area, helping them grow. I recently launched my own studio, littleINDUSTRIES, as a way to umbrella all of the creative endeavors I am involved in. Through this company I hope to use my skills to better the world around me, by helping small businesses grow, by helping teach what I know to others, and by helping change the environment I live in through consulting and organizing.
I am involved in several organizations related to promoting artists. I am a member of the Couchfire Collective, a diverse group of minds who work together to create events that promote the local arts community. I have been a member of the Ohio Art League since 1999, working as a volunteer, an intern, and eventually being asked to the Board of Trustees where I currently serve as Secretary of the organization. I help manage Junctionview Studios, a dynamic community of over 50 artists that acts as the beating heart of the Columbus art scene. I have helped other local arts organizations, such as the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Grandview Arts Council, by participating in discussions on how to best serve artists in the community. I have helped found and run such events as Agora and Independents' Day Festival, often serving as a primary organizer. I serve as the art coordinator for Haiku Poetic Food and Art in the Short North District. I frequently speak as part of panel or classroom discussions on getting people involved in the arts.
In my free time, I play stick with my dog Zoe, play in my band Ride to Ruin, and eat at Peking Dynasty.
